    The Opportunity

    As part of the Conjugate Concentrates team, to carry out the routine conjugation and purification of a large range of Conjugate Concentrate products. 

    The Responsibilities

    • Carry out manufacturing operations in accordance with all regulations and laws governing business and quality operations (cGMP, GLP, ISO etc) identifying and recording anomalous observations. Empowered to halt processes following anomalous observations.
    • Operate the AKTA systems including manual fraction collection where needed.
    • Responsible for a wide range of Chromatography columns including routine maintenance, efficiency testing and column packing.
    • Prepare SOP’s, WKI’s and training documents for procedures, ensuring they are up to date.
    • Participate in the set-up of new production procedures and documentation for new Conjugate Concentrates.
    • On occasion, deputise for more senior members of the team.
    • Responsible for own adherence to the training plan, train new members of the team when required.
    • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, national, international and company regulations, policies and procedures for Health, Safety & Environmental compliance.
    • Maintain control charts for trend analysis for each Conjugate using Prodmon.
    • Carry out routine In-Process tests, interpret results and make recommendations for appropriate action.
    • Maintain the lab environment, including cleaning and micro monitoring.
    • Ensure maintenance of production equipment is carried out to agreed schedules. Supervise contract maintenance staff and sign off completed maintenance records.
    • Participate in quality or cost improvement initiatives and in associated implementation teams.
    • Support the annual appraisal system within the unit.
    • Adherence to the manufacturing plan, including the pooling of Conjugate Concentrates and scheduling of new batches.



    • Be able to deal with complex technical Chromatography processes, AKTA systems and Unicorn Software.


    Decision Making

    • Works within pre-set limits in consultation with Group Leader, using discretion and flexibility to achieve objectives



    Peers: Conjugates operators work in two shifts which are then divided into streams of two operators for the week. Peers will also include other senior operations technicians in the work centre, as well as other manufacturing teams.


    The Individual

    • Previous experience working in a laboratory environment.
    • Good knowledge of Chromatography
    • Previous experience of protein separation.
    • Ability to work as part of a team, and to gain cooperation and consensus with the work group
    • Knowledge of the Conjugates Department’s links with other parts of the organisation.
    • Knowledge and understanding of HR policies, OCD products, Quality systems and HSE requirements
    • Good communication skills, being able to communicate effectively with stream partner, shift team and wider Conjugates team as well as other operations staff.
    • Understanding the process flow of conjugation, forward planning to ensure smooth flow of product through the factory.
    • Ability to multi-task, preparing for the next steps in the process while maintaining focus on current steps.
    • Perform basic problem solving whilst maintaining Quality Policy.
    • Excellent pipette skills.
    • Good manual dexterity – ability to work with high cost, low volume materials.



    • 5 x GCSE levels including Chemistry and Maths OR
    • HTEC OR
    • 2-5 years relevant operational experience.



    • 2 – 5 years OCD experience.
    • Experience of laboratory work is essential
    • Science background preferred
